UNCA Awards 2024: Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize - GOLD

The Ricardo Ortega Memorial Prize is for broadcast coverage of the United Nations and its agencies, and I was awarded the prestigious medal alongside presenter Caroline Steel for the BBC World Service CrowdScience programmes on coastal erosion we made earlier this year. It was an honour to attend the UNCA Awards Gala in New York in Dec 2024 to receive the medal and wonderful to meet so many interesting journalists from around the world.

I’d like to give a massive thanks to the contributors - without whom there is no programme, no story and no hope. Their resilience and commitment to protecting coastlines in Puerto Rico and beyond is incredible. Big thanks also to Content Editor Cathy Edwards who attended the awards with me, and whose guidance and advice was invaluable.
